Tosca Lopez (3/11/20-3/22/20)

3/11 Get To Know- Recall

Tosca and I worked on recalls just to see all that she knew already. I like recalls for her because its a fast past game, I can keep her engaged the whole time and I can work on see a lot of different skills all in one session with this one game for her. Tosca really enjoyed it and did a wonderful job! Carson

3/11 Get To Know — Check-in on cues

For our first session today, I had Tosca in a quiet classroom so that I could evaluate where we were with different cues. From there, we can determine what needs some additional practice to achieve the two goals you mentioned at drop up. In a quiet environment, she had excellent leash manners and “stay” (good duration and distance) which tells me she has a solid understand of what each cue means. We will do a lot of distraction proofing to help her have more consistent behavior. –Gloria

3/12 Dog Focus with Shoku

Tosca did a great job in our session today with her focus on me along with our loose leash walking, sit and down stays and other things we did. I am very proud of her and look forward to more sessions with her. Carson

3/13 Dog Focus with Bailey/Leash Manners

I wanted to work with Tosca on her leash manners/impulse control in a more distracting environment today. We worked outside and in the presence of another dog named Bailey. Asking Tosca for a “touch” or “look” helped keep her arousal level under control and maintain a nice loose leash. Good job, Tosca! –Gloria

3/14 Place

Tosca and I worked on place today. I can definitely tell that she had worked on this before just needed a bit of a refresher course on it.Tosca did a fabulous job with this, I was able to walk away from her with my back facing her in both a sit and down stay and walk back to release her by the end of the session! Great job Tosca! Carson

Gus Bateman March 2020 Dayschool

3/10 Loose Leash Walking/Polite Greeting

Gus and I worked with his loose leash walking and leash manners today, and we practiced walking by Jacquie as a person distraction and also did polite greeting! He was very focused for the session, and although didn’t hold a sit while Jacquie pet him, he didn’t jump on her. Unfortunately we had to cut the session short since it started raining harder, but he did great! – Whitney

Shoku Raif 3/10/20 – 3/17/20

3/10 Buddy Walk with Dalton

Today I took Shoku on a little walk outside with an older dog named Dalton. She was totally fine with Dalton’s presence and focused fairly well when I said her name or asked for a sit. She was a little upset about the light rain and I got her underneath an awning to help with that. She enjoys being outside except for the rain! – Whitney

3/10 Cooperative Care — Wiping Nose and Feet

Since Shoku has her feet and nose wiped after being outside, I wanted to work on some cooperative care with her today. She gets very nervous whenever our staff tries to touch her paws, so I worked on getting her to relax when her nose or paws are getting touched. We still have quite a ways to go, but we made some good progress today. –Gloria

3/11 Dog Focus with stuff dogs and Loose Leash Walking

Shoku and I walking more on her sensitivity of dogs staring at her today with some stuffed dogs. I first did some focus work with her before allowing her to greet the dogs and when she got to their face we celebrated. Each time we did this she sniffed their faces for longer and longer until she didn’t mind them at all and was able to do some sit stays beside both of them. After we did a little bit of that we worked on some loose leash walking with them as distractions. Carson

3/11 Cooperative Care for paws

Today Shoku and I continued working on having a relaxed response to having shoulders/legs being touched. She still gets very nervous but I am seeing her relax as we practice more. –Gloria

3/12 Dog focus with Tosca

Shoku & I walked around outside while Carson worked with Tosca who is quite energetic. Shoku was somewhat distracted at times but not interested in what Tosca was doing. I was able to get a few recalls & sits – Diana

3/13 Focus work outside

Shoku was pretty distracted with things that were going on outside. I sat with her and we worked on focus instead of loose leash walking outside that we were planning on doing. She did a good job with this! Carson

3/13 Cooperative Care for paws

Today Shoku and I continued worked on relaxed responses to having her shoulders/legs touched. She is making slow but steady progress, and I was very excited when one of the Teamworks assistants shared that she had had a much easier time getting Shoku wiped off after a trip outside. Good job, Shoku! –Gloria

3/14 Loose Leash Walking Inside

Shoku and I worked inside today because I worked with her yesterday and Shoku had a difficult time focusing on me. We worked on focus inside by started out with just a look. When I started to get looks consistently, I added in dropping treats where I wanted her to be during loose leash walking and we turned in circles with me still just asking for looks. By the end of the session we were able to get some nice loose leash walking skills and looks through out it! Carson

3/15 Life Skills Walk

Today I took Shoku on a nice walk outside since I know she enjoys being out and exploring but it can also be difficult to get her to focus. She may be losing interest in the treats we have. I walked her around in several different areas outside and she was most focused in front of the building, she had the most difficulty at the overlook where there was more open space and grassy areas – Whitney

3/15 Dog Focus with Fake/stuffed Dogs

Shoku and I worked on her dog focus inside with the stuffed dogs. She was at first nervous, I think mostly because they look like dogs but they’re not moving. Once she investigated them she was not really concerned with them anymore. I did have a much easier time getting her to focus on me inside, but once we were done with the session, she was ready to go out again and sniff more! – Whitney

3/16 Focus Outside

Today I worked with Shoku on her focus at the front of the building. I chose this area because I noticed it is a little less distracting for her than the overlook area, where there’s a lot of grass and interesting smells. She did progress well with responding to her name throughout the session, and we worked on her loose leash walking as well – Whitney

3/16 Loose Leash Walking Inside

After working with Shoku on her focus outside, I wanted to take things inside and see how she would do with working with me inside. We worked on some loose leash walking in the classroom and she did a fairly good job of staying with me. I used a few cones to give us extra obstacles/distractions to walk around as well. – Whitney

3/16 Buddy Walk with Luna

Today we had our most exciting session when I introduced Shoku to my Siberian husky Luna! I had the assistant Jacquie handle Luna for this so that I could focus on Shoku. First I met her outside with Shoku and they were able to see each other at a distance, and I could tell they were curious about each other. Then we moved to go to the overlook area, and I had Jacquie take Luna first, so that Shoku could walk behind her and not feel as nervous. Shoku started getting really excited and playful and danced around! It was so cute as I’m used to seeing her be very serious! Once we got out to the overlook Shoku got closer to Luna and Luna did turn around at one point and then Shoku barked sharply at her to let her know she was nervous about having her face so close to hers. Then we moved to the fenced play area and I let Shoku off leash so she could choose whether she wanted to come closer to Luna or not. Then after a few minutes I had both of them off leash, and Luna was very patient and cautious about approaching Shoku, but she finally started initiating some chase with her! They did play bows to each other and did chase a few times, so I would say that was a success! I think it would go better once we try this a few more times, but I’m happy to say we might have finally found a play buddy for her! Unfortunately there is no video since we moved around a lot, so I wanted to fully describe what happened in the session – Whitney

Scout Hudgeons March 2020 Dayschool

3/9 Loose Leash Walking Outside

Today Scout and I went to the fenced area beside the building which is a nice long corridor that is great for loose leash walking. I used an orange rubber ball he really likes and today he was also in the mood to take treats. He did a great job with this! Really nice progress! – Whitney

3/9 Life Skills Walk/Focus

I walked Scout around some outside the building in the parking lot area and at the front of the building and we worked on his focus around trucks, as well as people coming and going. He was losing interest in the ball at this point but would take treats. He got a little distracted by new smells, but overall very nice focus! – Whitney

Banner Thalla 3/6-3/8/20

3/7 Mat work

Attempted to do some Mat stays, Banner became too distracted with the sound of people outside. So we changed it to a walk where he was able to satisfy his curiosity 🙂 Bernice

3/7 Leash Manners

Banner and I worked on leash manners today. He was pretty distracted and didn’t care for any of the treats or toy that I had for him to work with so instead I used my words of support and love for his reward which seemed to work after a little bit of working on his pulling. Good job Banner. -Carson

3/8 Life Skills Walk (No Video)

today we did a walk around the building with all types of distractions and banner worked on his focus and attention. he did a nice job with this even with the other dogs and squirrel and birds running around. Well done. Liz

3/8 Your Choice

Banner and I played with a puzzle toy today. During his say I noticed he wasn’t interested in any of his treats or our treats. Which made it a little difficult to train because there was nothing motivating him to do what we were asking, the question, “why should he?”. I decided to use a puzzle toy to see if it was the treats that weren’t high enough value for him or if he was just not in the mood for training. Shortly after the session started I found out it was definitely the value of the treats! He loves peanut butter which we didn’t know until now because we don’t really use peanut butter just in case of a peanut allergy. I got a very nice loose leash walking with peanut butter! Great job Banner! Carson

Rubia Tompkins 3/6/20 – 3/16/20

3/6 Tricks

Today I worked with Rubia on some fun tricks, but she is so smart, she already knows quite a few! She did catch, shake with both paws, high five and we started working on a wave. She is such a smart girl I know she’ll pick it up and have the wave down with a little more practice! – Whitney

3/7 Bows

Rubia and I worked on learning how to Bow on cue. Rubia as usual did a fabulous job with this because she is so smart. She is lovely pup!! Great Job Rubia! -Carson

3/8 Fun with Tricks

Rubia had so much fun with her training today!! She is a wonderful pup! I am proud of all that she has accomplished here at Teamworks! Carson

3/9 Leg Weaves/Wave

Today I continued Rubia’s work on wave, we worked on her getting her paw up higher and me moving my hand further away by a few inches. I also used her nose to hand touch cue to teach her to go through my legs for a leg weave. She did so great with this! I also talked a little on the video about teaching her a jump over an arm or leg trick, and only had her jump over my low arm one time just to demonstrate – Whitney

3/6 Stay

Today I worked with Hank on both sit/stay and down/stay. I used an agility table that was already out in the room just to give him a definite boundary for the stay. I was only able to take a couple steps away, but I know with practice he will get much better! He is so focused! – Whitney

3/6 Leave it

Hank and I had a spectacular session on leave its today! Hank worked so hard. After a little bit of focus work, his focus on me was unbreakable! He is such a smart boy. I am very proud of Hank! -Carson

3/7 Focus around dog

Hank was distracted as usual in the beginning. I was very impressed on how he gained his composure and stayed focused on me during the session. Very nicely done. Bernice

3/7 Recall

Hank did a great job during our recall session today! He was having such a great time doing treat fetch that he came back even after seeing a big truck to get a treat! Beautiful job Hank!! -Carson

3/8 Recall Away from stuff dogs

We haven’t had any good matches for Hank to play with so I used stuffed dogs instead which is still useful with this exercise. Hank did a great job with this, didn’t even pay the stuff dogs any mind so I ended up just playing treat fetch while I stood next to or around the stuffed dogs and petted them as if they were real. I am very proud of all Hank accomplished during this session! -Carson

3/9 Recalls Outside

Today I worked with Hank on his recall in the fenced area beside the building. I kept him on a long line just to keep him a bit closer to me. I threw a tennis ball for him to go out and away and then had him come back to me for treats. He was getting pretty distracted by different smells, but when I started turning my back to him and running away, he played chase with me and then came to me! Now that I know that this will get him excited I think he can be more successful – Whitney

3/10 Dog Focus with Joulz

Today I worked on having Hank focus on me while noticing that another dog was nearby. He did very well with this and we were able to get about 15 feet away! Unfortunately there is no video because I had my camera set up at the front of the building and there were dogs hanging around for class. We went to another area to make sure that they were more successful, and Hank did great! – Whitney

3/10 Leave It

Today Hank and I worked on “leave it” using a milkbone treat. He offered some great disengagement on cue and I am seeing his impulse control improve. Good boy, Hank! –Gloria

3/11 Focus work

Hank and I worked on focus work outside around a lot of distractions. Hank was a little distracted at first but after a few minutes of walking back/ forth and asking for a look every so often for a good distance from the distraction. He began giving me good focus and very nice sit stays. Very nice job Hank! Carson

3/11 Loose Leash Walking

Today Hank and I worked on loose leash walking in an outdoor area where there is relatively little traffic, people, or other dogs. He did an excellent job offering check-ins, keeping a loose leash, and not getting too distracted with all of the smells. –Gloria

3/12 Place

Great progress today on place! Hank is starting to be able to hold his down while I get up and walk around close by him, and we also worked on sending him to his place. He is showing really great focus and really starting to build up that duration of his down. Good work! – Whitney

3/13 Leave it

Today Hank and I worked on leave its with a very enticing puzzle toy with peanut butter and cooked hotdogs. I am very proud of hank because after about 2 or 3 tries to get to the puzzle toy he turned around and paid the toy no mind any more. Great job Hank!! Carson

3/13 Dog Focus with Pongo

Hank and I worked on loose leash walking today while another dog named Pongo was approximately 20 feet away. To help Hank’s arousal level under control, I used “look” to help break up his gaze of the other dog. We also practiced polite greetings with a fellow Teamworks employee named Di who was walking by during our session. Solid work, Hank! –Gloria

Murphy Hodge 3/6/20 – 3/8/20

3/6 Agility foundation

Murphy & I worked on flatwork around cones. I sent him out & around the cones in different directions & from different sides. We worked on single cones & figure of 8 & then 3 cones. Overall he did a really good job. He was steady & focused on the task & very committed to work the entire time. I’m going to do another session with him as this one appears not have been recorded for some reason. – Diana

3/6 Proprioception

I worked with Murphy on using his front end or his back end on equipment for core strengthening & balance work. He did a brilliant job with his front end & worked stable & moving balance equipment. Then we tried back end awareness. This is much harder at first so it didn’t go as well but we managed to capture several rear paw on disc moments so we’ll work on this again with him – Diana

3/6 Dog Focus with Bailey

Murphy and I worked on dog focus in our session today. He did a good job today, a little distracted but we started from a sensible distance for Murphy and as we continue working on this the closer he will be able to get! He did good work today and very proud of him! -Carson

3/7 – More dog focus with Stormy

Murphy is wonderfully exuberant and he was very much into wanting to play with Stormy or dig for toys. We used the screens as a visual block which helped. Murphy is very smart and remembers things like dogs on the other side of the screen and toys under the table. We did get some good focus, but he needs a bit of decompression (or get the beans out) time first. -Suze

Bailey Kraft – March 2020 Dayschool

3/6 Leash manners outdoors

Bailey absolutely aced her session with me. She was nicely focused or returned her focus to me whenever I called her. We worked on loose leash walking & she was really good. Did several sits & stays too. Really good session & good girl! – Diana

3/6 Dog Focus

Today I worked with Bailey on some focus while outside with another dog nearby. She noticed the other dog but had no problem focusing back on me when I said her name also. We were able to approach about 10 or 15 feet away with no problem. She has such nice loose leash walking too! What a good girl! – Whitney

3/13 CGC Neutral Dog/ Dog Focus with Tosca

Before doing the neutral dog session of the CGC test. I like to do a little bit of basics to get Baileys focus on me which also encases dog focus because Tosca our neutral dog for Bailey was with us. Tosca at first did check Baileys eye but as we began doing basics the fact that Tosca was there didnt matter to much to Bailey. She did 2 nice neutral dog walks with one small stop over but we got a quick refocus on both of the pups and kept on walking. Great job Bailey!! Carson

3/13 Canine Good Citizien (CGC) Test Prep

I absolutely LOVED working with Bailey today! Off camera, we worked on understanding leash boundaries (i.e. if pup hits the end of their leash, they know to offer a check-in with their owner) in the kennel area. Since the kennel area is highly distracting with all of the dogs, smells, and people, this was excellent practice for Bailey and will help you both on the loose leash walking portion of the CGC test.

Second, we worked on a tool for the CGC test called “touch” (also, can serve as one of the tricks for Novice Trick Title :-)). I like having a solid touch cue for pups because it allows you to orient their gaze/body in a specific direction. This cue can come in handy for the following CGC test components: loose lease walking, neutral dog, polite greetings, and grooming/appearance. We will continue working on this more in our group class, but Bailey made excellent progress today! –Gloria

3/20 Touch Review

For our first session today, Bailey and I did a review of “Touch” since this is a behavior that can be very useful on the Canine Good Citizen test. I can tell you guys have been working on it because she did wonderful! We spent our session generalizing the behavior in various locations (classroom, lobby, utility area, and outside). Well done, Bailey! –Gloria

3/20 Canine Good Citizen (CGC) — Grooming

For our session session today, Bailey and I focused on the “Grooming and Appearance” portion of the CGC test. The dog needs to accept handling on ears, chest, paws, and tail. The dog must also accept being brushed. Today we focused on Bailey’s more sensitive areas: paws and ears (left ear in particular). In the video, I explain what I’m looking for in terms of body language and what my criteria is for handling/giving treats. Good girl, Bailey! –Gloria
