Kona Statile – April 2021 Day School

4/30 Recalls

Kona and I worked on his focus and strengthening his come cue and he did a great job! He came when he was called and did a touch and a sit. I decided to challenge him by adding a squeaker and a rope toy to his recalls. He did fine with the squeaker and offered sits; the rope toy was a bit more difficult and he jumped a lot. We can definitely work on his no jumping, but Kona worked really hard today! – Nautica

4/30

Dooley Larson (4/30/21-5/3/21)

4/30 Recalls/No Jumping

Dooley and I worked on her focus and impulse control today and she did really well! We started with regular recalls and I asked for sits to reinforce calm behavior and she started offering some sits. I decided to challenge her by adding a squeaker to the recalls and it became a bit harder for her. She was super jumpy and I had to ask for sits constantly. She started getting the idea though and was able to come when I called her without jumping 3 times with the squeaker. Great focus today! – Nautica

5/1 No Jumping/No Pulling

Outside the classroom Dooley was super bouncy. Once she realized we were in a training session though, she flipped a switch and didn’t jump on me or anything else in the room no matter what I did. I switched up to do some work on not pulling, and she quickly remembered the deal and even if she ran towards and item, she stopped short, or put very little tension before turning back to me. Perhaps she just needs a refresher, but we can up the distraction. – Anna K

5/2 Recall/No Jumping

Dooley was so great at not jumping, even with squeaker toys and a ball and everything I could think of that might incite her to jump up! I ended up throwing the leash and harness on for a minute or so to work on leash manners, and she nailed that too! Great work Dooley 🙂 – Hopler

Gunner Allen – April 2021 Day School

4/30 Get to Know

Gunner was super shy and a bit anxious about his first day today. We spent the beginning of the session letting him get used to me and being in the classroom. He was able to do a few solid recalls before getting to stressed, he started whining and scratching at the door. I decided to give him a break and do a life skills walk for the rest of the lesson. We walked around the building and let him explore and meet new people. He was a lot calmer once he was out of the room. It’s only his first day, so hopefully he’ll learn to love his new school. It was a joy to work with Gunner! – Nautica

4/30 Get to know

today I got to meet gunner and he’s a sweetheart! He’s definitely a little shy and nervous so for the session we just did the set and clicker charging. He’ll get more comfortable soon, I think he was just a little worried about where you guys went! -Anna Walser

Raffy LeSeur April 29-May 4 2021

4/29 Get to Know

Raffy is such a sweet little girl! She was pretty nervous on her first day and in her first session so we spent most of the time just getting clicks and treats for being around me and for watching me. Towards the middle and the end of the session she started to notice the dogs barking in the kennel behind us, and that began to cause a little bit of hesitation. I tried to redirect her attention with lot more reinforcement and some snuggles. She’s a sweet girl and I can’t wait to work with her more! -Amy

4/30 Wait

Raffy and I worked on her impulse control and focus using her wait cue today and she did great! She was able to leave uncovered treats in hand and on my lap. She did struggle a bit when the treat was on the floor and I had to keep covering it, but she caught on eventually. She was able to do 3 waits without any help near the end, great work! – Nautica

4/30 recalls

today Raffy worked on her Recalls. She did really good with this and had very consistent recalls throughout the entire session. It was great to see that she wasn’t jumping up a lot either even when I got super excited which can sometimes tempt them to jump up. Good job today Raffy! -Anna Walser

5/1 Place

Today we worked on place, she was very exited when i got her into the training room, a little jumpy so I tried to redact her in to sits, this was a little hard because she is still learn but she did do a lot better during out taring session. when it came to place I used mat and started tossing treats away from it then calling her back with Raffy place! This really worked and in no time she was able to step on the mat and offer me sits. Ruth

5/1 Touch

Raffy and I practiced Touch today. Its a foundation focus skill that is used for things like targeting later on. I also like to use it to challenge pups brains. If I put my hand a little too high for her to reach, she needs to go up on her hind legs and balance to reach it, and that was a little too tough right now. She was able to go some distance to find the target hand. If the treat hand is visible its definitely tough for her to see the target, but we worked on that. – Anna K

5/2 Leash Manners

Today we did a session on leash manners. What a sweetheart. She was so attuned to focusing on me and did such a nice job with her walking on leash today. Well done. Liz

5/2 Wait + Recall + No Jumping

We worked on several skills in tandem today. Raffy is very jumpy, so although my intention was to work on wait + recall, it was important to also reinforce no jumping during that process. Raffy is a fast learner and caught on quickly that nothing would happen until all 4 paws were on the ground. So far I can walk away about 5-10 paces consistently without Raffy jumping up or losing patience. – Hopler

5/03 Drop it

she did a wonderful job once i got her into it. at first she was not into playing with the rope toys or the stuffed toy so i took out the ball and through it for her. this worked and she dropped it every time i asked. Ruth

5/3 Stay

Raffy and I started working on her stay cue today and she did a great job! I couldn’t take a step away from her without her following so we worked on building duration with the cue first. We started with 5 seconds and gradually worked up to a 45 second stay. I couldn’t lure her into a down, but she offered one halfway through and didn’t get up the rest of the session. Raffy had great focus and showed really nice impulse control today! – Nautica

5/3 Play session (Photo)

Raffy got to meet a new friend today. They had a blast playing during their play session and she did a great job listening to the feedback Arya gave her.

5/4 Leash Manners

Today I worked with Raffy on her leash manners and she did a really good job, she had great focus and walked very nicely on the leash. Good work ~Jacquie

4/29 Wait

Lola did an amazing job with waiting today! We started out the session by having her wait in a sit or a down and then I called her to me. She was able to allow me to go almost all the way across the room, and the only time she really popped back up was when I turned my back to walk away from her. That’s something that we can work on. Then we switched to having her wait with the food on the ground until I gave her a release q to get it. She did great! She was able to sit for at least 10 to 15 seconds watching the food, and then checking in with me with her eyes before getting the release cue to get it. She worked really hard! -Amy

4/29 dog focus

today Gracie worked on her focus while another dog was around. Overall she did really great with this and consistently checked in and didn’t pull too much on the leash as well. Really great job today Gracie! -Anna Walser

4/28 Get to Know

Millie is such a sweetheart!!! We spent the beginning of the session giving her cuddles and letting her get used to being in this environment. She warmed up to me really quickly and we moved on to building a strong recall. She stayed focused and was able to come every time she was called. I had to lure her sits, so we worked on that for a bit as well. I can’t wait to work with Millie again! – Nautica

4/28 Get to Know

Millie is such a sweet little ball of fluff. We did some clicker charging to start with. We use a clicker in training, and its important for a pup to learn that the click means a yummy treat is on the way. We’ll need to do some more of that. She certainly knows her name, and she responds really well to affection as well, so I’m sure she will learn fast once we help her get a few basics in. – Anna K

4/30 Sit/Down

Millie and I worked on her basics today and she did really good! We started with her sit and I had to lure it at first, but she caught on quickly and was able to respond to the verbal. We moved on to her down and it was lured but she focused super hard and was able to do them. Great work! – Nautica

4/30 look

Today Millie started on look. She did really good with this even though she was a little bit tired! (I think I might have woken her up from her nap). Overall she did really great with this and figured it out pretty quickly. Great job today! Anna Walser
