Zara Kitrick (1/31/2022 – 2/1/2022)

1/31 Leave It Introduction

Zara and I started working on her leave it cue today and she did a nice job. She did go for the treat a few times, but was able to leave them alone with a bit of help. At first she was fixating on the milkbones, but was able to be lured into a look as the session continued. We worked up to her leaving the biscuit alone in my hand and halfway uncovered on the floor. She could use more practice, but nice progress today! – Nautica

1/31 no jump

today Zara got to work on her no jump. Overall she did an amazing job and such a quick learner! Anna

2/1 settle

today’s or I got to work on settling in the lobby. Overall I was really impressed with her as this definitely is a challenging session but she was able to work through it and do an amazing job! Anna

2/1 Leave it & No Jump

Today Zara and I started our session with some leave it practice but she wasn’t super interested in that training game today. We switched gears to keep her engaged and worked on some impulse control with jumping and introducing clear boundaries for when it is okay to jump and when it is inappropriate. Zara did really well with this – great work today! – Cal

Tori Ruggero – January 2022 Day School

1/31 Leash Manners / Lobby Focus

Tori and I worked on her focus and leash manners in a high distraction area and she did a great job! She was able to stay calm and focused as multiple people and dogs passed. She did pull a bit when we did loose leash walking, but responded well to her leave it cue when needed. She could use practice with choosing to heel, but otherwise amazing work today! – Nautica

Stihl Mclntyre 1/31/22-2/6/22

Stihl with his new friend Waffles!

1/31 Lobby Focus / Leash Manners

Stihl and I worked on his focus and leash manners in the lobby area and he did a great job! He did a really nice job of handling all the people walking by and staying calm. He was able to respond to his look and offer check-ins when needed. The peanut butter spoon definitely helped him. Stihl could use more practice with distractions, but nice job today! – Nautica

1/31 focus

today he got to work on his focus in the classroom as well as just some basic behaviors like sit and stay. We used his tongue toy as a reinforcement and he definitely seem to like that. I would really recommend though getting him a longer tug toy as he did have a tendency to grab my hand instead of the toy.

2/1 focus

today he got to work on his focus in the lobby during a class change. This was definitely a little challenging for him at times as there was people walking by but overall he was able to get focused. I started out with a spoon with some of his Kong filling on it but he didn’t seem super interested that today so I went back and got his toy. Overall nice job today! Anna

2/1 Outside Focus

Today Stihl and I worked on his focus foundations outside using his tug toy as a reward since he wasn’t feeling any of his treats today. Our session today focused on building the value of a game of tug and shaping the picture of a tug reward including dropping the toy. I’m unsure of how solid his “drop it” is at home, but he did struggle with it outside today, so we spent some time on that. We were able to exist outside today while a few people came and went in the distance. Stihl did struggle a little performing basic commands outside, but I was able to get fairly consistent focus from him once I incorporated play. This is definitely an exercise we will want to build on in the future but he did really well in his session today. It was awesome to see him again and finally get to work with him one-on-one instead of just admiring his progress from afar in group class! Can’t wait to work with him again later this week 🙂 – Cal

2/2 Distraction Proofing

Today I worked in a classroom with Stihl on his focus around another dog, he did really well and was also able to work on his leash manners throughout the classroom. We use the toy as his reward and that seem to help. I mentioned that he could use work on his drop it but overall it was a really good session and he did not seem to care about banks on the other side of the barrier. ~Jacquie

2/2 Leash Manners / Focus Outside

Stihl and I worked on his leash manners and focus in a high distraction area and he did a great job! His focus was amazing. He did struggle with pulling and stopping while walking, so we can definitely work on his heel queue. I did mention in the video maybe considering a different verbal cue for his heel because it’s so similar to his name. Overall though, great work from Stihl today! – Nautica

2/3 Lobby Focus

We worked in a highly distraction environment on Stihls focus today. He had a good challenge of another dog walking in very close proximity to him – he did pop up and walk over to go sniff. Although he did release himself, he approached the other dog very politely and did not yank me over to go say hi. Stihl did a great job at checking in with me and being calm when others passed by. Good job today! – Jenna

2/3 Drop it

They work with Stihl on his drop it using his favorite rope toy, and he did well. There were moments where he was overly excited and was keeping it away for me but throughout the session he improved. Overall today was a really good session and he ended strong with being consistent with his dropit and checking in with me. ~Jacquie

2/4 Kennel Area – Focus/Leash Manners

Stihl didn’t want to take treats so we worked with his tug toy as a reward. He had awesome focus in the kennel area, especially with the cleaner walking around and the other dogs barking. He’s making great progress and we’ll keep at it! -Maria

2/4 Café

Stihl and I started working on café training today and he did a great job! He did pop out of his down a lot, but was able to go back into one when asked. He didn’t demand bark or counter surf throughout the session, so that was really nice. We worked up to a 5-10 second rate of reinforcement with the peanut butter spoon. She could use more practice, but overall amazing impulse control and focus today! – Nautica

2/5 Leash manners

Today I worked outside with Stihl on his leash manners, overall he did a really fantastic job and was able to handle the distraction while being outside. He did struggle a little bit when the play session started but overall I was able to get him to focus on me with his toy and remain calm for the remainder of the session. ~Jacquie

2/5 distraction proofing

Today I worked with Stihl and his focus with distractions, I use the puppy class that was coming in for their session as his distraction and he did really well focusing on me. He only stared a little bit but overall I was able to gain his focus and keep him calm and focused on me throughout today’s session he did a really fantastic job overall today. ~Jacquie

Rubia Tompkins (1/28-1/31)

1/28 fetch

today Ruby I got to work on her fetch. Rubia did a great job and didn’t play keep away at all with me and I was able to trade the ball for a tree which was really great to see! Anna

1/29 Work for Play + Fetch

Rubia and I worked on recall with fetch as a reward. She had a great time! – Hopler

1/30 Recall

Today Rubia and I worked on her recall cue! She had a little bit of trouble with this as I think her hair around her eyes is just slightly long and she had trouble seeing the treats on the ground. Outside of this hiccup, she did really well! She could use a little extra work on distraction proofing her recall cue but overall we had a really solid session today. Great work Rubia! – Cal

Waffles Ames (1/31-2/6/22)

1/30 No-Jump

Today Waffles and I worked on her impulse control and manners with a no-jump lesson! She did have some frustration barking when she felt the session wasn’t exciting enough, but did a pretty good job of refocusing on the work once she got those big feelings out of her system. Great work today Waffles! – Cal

1/30 Stay

For our second session today, Waffles worked on her “stay” cue, specifically on reducing barking while she stayed. She has a pretty low tolerance for frustration and wasn’t a fan of me talking to the camera instead of her, so we worked on communicating to her that barking is not the way to get my attention on her. Her barking sessions got shorter and shorter as the lesson went on and she definitely started picking up the best way to get my attention – to quiet down and disengage, resetting the rep. We worked on building up her frustration tolerance slowly – increasing how often we reward and slowly slowly slowly increasing the time between rewards in a way that kept her guessing and kept her interested. This was a great start for reducing her barking – fabulous work today Waffles! – Cal

Your sweet girl is doing great! Here is her with her friend Stihl 🙂

1/31 Place

Waffles and I worked on her place cue today and she did an amazing job! She was a little unsure at first about what I was asking for. She caught on as we continued. By the end, she responded to the verbal place cue three times and offered downs. She could use more practice to build duration and distance with this cute, but nice work today! – Nautica

1/31 stay

today waffles got to work on her stay! Overall she did a fairly good job when working on this but to avoid her from barking we really want to make sure that we’re keeping her engaged with us. Keeping up with her like giving her a high rate of reinforcement and encouraging her to pay attention to us will really help out with that. Anna

2/1 lobby focus

today waffles got to work on some focus in a little bit of stays in the lobby area during a class change. Overall she did fairly well but at times she did struggle a little bit with her focus. Towards the end of her session she did seem to get fairly bothered by something and got a little stressed out so I went ahead and ended the session and we went outside and hung out for a little bit to help her calm her nerves. Waffles is at an age where we can still have occasional fear periods but I got her outside and she recovered quite quickly. Anna

2/1 No Jump

Today Waffles and I worked on her impulse control with jumping! She did really well in her session today and did a fabulous job working on her patience. It’s so important to slowly increase her duration and build up her tolerance to any perceived disengagement of her handler. Waffles did great and only hopped up on me twice, offering fabulous sits instead and walking next to me politely. Great work today Waffles! – Cal

2/2 Distraction Proofing

Today I worked with waffles in the classroom on her focus and settle with the company of Nautica and Goldie, waffles did a good job. we struggled here and there but I made note in her training sheets that we need to continue to work on settlework while she’s here with us. I mention some tips and tricks on how to work on this with her, overall she did well and always make sure you end your training sessions on a positive note. ~Jacquie

2/2 Wait

Waffles and I started working on her wait cue to help with impulse control and demand barking and she did a nice job. She did get frustrated at times so I gave her a chance to go find treats and take a break. She was able to hold some solid 3-5 second waits. She has been pushy for treats, so we can definitely continue to work on her impulse control. Overall she made some good progress today. – Nautica

2/3 leash manners

Today I worked with waffles in the classroom on her leash manners and focused, this was a struggle at first but throughout the session she made improvements. I really focused on her body positioning as well as making sure she wasn’t jumping up at me or demand barking, we reinforced her staying in a straight line and staying in a heel position while maintaining loose leash. ~Jacquie

2/3 place

today waffles worked on her place cue. I did this today as a way to help her settle and calm down and see if doing something like a place cue would be beneficial for her before putting her in a challenging situation. I noticed today when walking her to the classroom for her session she was super amped up and was willing to walk with good leash manners but would not stop barking at me. I couldn’t seem to get her focus nor engage with me and she just wanted to bark so what I wanted to do was work on a settled behavior like the place cue for about four minutes and then try to work her again in the kennel area. What I saw was definitely a very nice improvement, she was much more focused and significantly more calm. So with that being said I definitely do think for waffles if we know that she’s going to be put in a challenging situation asking her to do a few minutes of settling work before hand could be really beneficial for her. I was really impressed with the behavior she showed walking back to her kennel. Very nice job! Anna

2/4 Wait

Waffles and I worked on her wait cue today to continue build her impulse control with treats and she made a lot of progress. She only got frustrated once and demand barked, she stayed calm for the rest of the session. He worked up to one nice 10 second wait. She could use more practice, but she is improving a lot! – Nautica

2/4 Place

today waffles got to work on her placecue in the lobby. I was really happy with what I saw as she was super consistent with her placecue. Lovely job today miss waffles! Anna

2/5 Settle/stay

Today I worked with waffles on her settle/stay work, we mainly focused on her keeping a duration for a downstay while not being demanding for treats. This took a few minutes to get her to settle down but by the end of the session she ended really strong. We did a little bit of clicker charging before the session started and we worked on the duration stay, and that seem to help settle her down a little bit and stay focused on me. Overall she did really fantastic today in the session ended very strong and I’m super impressed with the progress I saw. ~Jacquie

2/5 polite greeting

Today I worked with waffles  on her polite greeting, She started out very excited to see Lilly , jumping up and barking but ended session strong. We did have to have Lilly go take care of someone who came in for drop off, but she ended the session really well with me super focused not as jumpy and no barking. Overall this was a really good session and I saw a really good progress from waffles today she was super focused ended both of her sessions very strong. ~Jacquie

Bear Tuttle (1/27/2022 – 1/29/2022)

1/27 recalls

Today I worked with bear outside on his recall and he did excellent. He handled all the distractions very well and his recall was very solid and consistent throughout today’s session. If you’re working on this at home I would suggest working with a long line so that you have that extra control and stability, and also make sure that you have really cool fun treats to ask for him to come back to you with. ~Jacquie

1/27 Dog focus

today bear got to work on his focus with another dog around! As always bear did an amazing job and showed off some fantastic focus! Anna

1/28 Recalls Outside

Bear and I worked on his recalls off leash outside and he did struggle a bit today. He mostly got distracted by smells and dropped treats. When he wasn’t distracted by smells, he was able to recall and respond to his sit every time. He could use more distraction proofing with his recalls and focus outside, but nice work today! – Nautica

1/27 Leave it

today Murphy got to work on his leave it! He did a stellar job in his session and I was really impressed with him throughout this whole session! Anna

1/28 Work For Play / Drop It

Murphy and I worked on his recalls out of play and drop it cues today and he did a great job! He does really well while playing fetch, so I decided to challenge him and continue where him and Jacquie left off. I only threw the ball after he came within arms reach and was holding a sit. He does still stop a little far away, but he stayed calm and focused on me the entire session. I also let him play outside for a little bit after the session and just gave him lots of attention. Nice job today! – Nautica

1/28 life skills walk (no video)

but today Murphy had a fantastic time getting to go on a life skills walk. At first we hung out outside for a little bit and worked on a little bit of leash manners and focus, we worked our way inside and went around visiting all the staff at Tim works who gave Murphy lots of attention! He most definitely had a great time and got to hang out with us as well and we worked on a little bit of settling behaviors! Murphy is a really great dog and I was so happy with how he did today and he had a great time! Anna

1/29 Work for Play

For our first session today we worked on playing fetch appropriately by bringing the ball all the way back and dropping it. Murphy did great and had a blast! – Hopler

1/29 Stay

For our second session we worked on long duration stays. Murphy is very good at this and was able to easily remain still for 4 consecutive 1 minute stays with ball breaks. – Hopler

1/30 Agility – Tire Jump, Tunnel, and Pause Table

Today Murphy and I played around with some agility equipment! Murphy is far more advanced with agility than I was anticipating – he definitely threw me for a loop with his skills! We had a lot of fun bouncing between obstacles. He had fabulous patience on the pause table and was flawless with the jump and tunnel. One exception – he treated the tunnel like a jump a few times and vaulted over it, unprompted. He is a fabulous athlete – great work today Murphy! – Cal

1/30 Go Around

Today for our second session, Murphy and I worked on a new trick – going around an object at a distance. Murphy is a super quick learner and picked up on this new task really fast. He did fantastic with this and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he made quick work of an AKC Trick Dog Title. Great work today Murphy! – Cal

1/31 Life Skills Walk (no video)

Murphy and I had a pretty chill session today. We started with recalls outside with toys and doing fetch, but he wasn’t super interested so we did a life skills walk instead. He did a nice job of staying focused on me outside in the play areas and in the parking lot. It was a bit harder in the kennel area with all the barking dogs. He wasn’t interested in the treats, but he was able to respond to my squeaker toy. Overall Murphy did a really nice job of staying focused, but he could use more practice with distractions. – Nautica

1/31 drop it

today Murphy worked on his drop it with the flirt pole! he absolutely loved the session and overall did a great job! Anna

Summer Norland (1/27/2022 – 1/30/2022)

1/27 lobby focus leash manners

Today I worked with summer in the lobby on her leash manners focus as well as reinforcing her keeping all four on the floor. Summer did a really good job, she showed great impulse control And was able to maintain her excitement and kept all four on the floor by the end of the session. Summer also handle all of the Distractions going on very well and was very consistent with her focus. I did have to make sure she was actually checking in with me and not following my hand but she made really good improvements. ~Jacquie

1/28 Leash Manners / Focus

Summer and I worked on her focus and leash manners in a high distraction area and she did a great job! We started with a few distractions and worked our way up as she progressed. By the end, she was able to do some loose leash walking with the barrier open. She did an amazing job of staying focused as people passed. Nice Focus and impulse control from summer today! – Nautica

1/29 No Jumping

Today I worked with Summer and Forest together on not jumping up. They did well as long as I was paying attention to them and standing still but struggled to remain on the ground if they were trying to get my attention (i.e. if I looked up or talked to the camera) or when I walked around (especially if they were in front of me and needed to move out of the way). We worked on backing up slowly when I moved forward which seemed to help a little. Hopler
