9/29 drop it

Today I worked with Kona on his drop it using two tennis balls, are used a trade off method where he was to go get a tennis ball come back and drop it then to get the other tennis ball. He picked up on this very quickly and did not do a keep away with me so I’d say great progress for Mr. Kona today. ~Jacquie

Wally Quigley 9/30-10/8/21

9/30 Recalls outside

Today I worked with Wally outside today on his Recalls, he did a good job got distracted here and there with some smells but overall I was able to recall him in consistently. ~Jacquie

9/30 Leash Manners Outside

Wally and I went outside today for our session to work on some leash manners in one of our back play yards. It took me a second to get his focus at the beginning, but by the end he was willingly offering lots of concentration as we walked. I also worked on some weight with a recall, focusing more on keeping him in a sit instead of automatically going into the down. I want him to be able to understand the difference between those cues. Really good job today Wally, great start to his stay here! – Amy

10/1 distraction proofing

Today I worked with Wally outside on his leash manners and focus well Anna and Frank we’re at the other side of the parking lot. This helps add a level of distraction that Wally did really great handling. He offered really good eye contact and kept a nice loose leash, when he would look over at Frank I was able to ask for him to look and he did well with good check-in‘s. Overall this was a really good session for a while. ~Jacquie

10/2 Recalls – outside

Wally definitely could use more focus work around grassy areas in general. However when we were on the pavement, he worked like a dream!  -Maria

10/2 Place

Wally did a great job working on Place today! He very quickly grasped what I was asking of him and was happy to oblige. At first he had some really great duration and distance with it, but towards the end he started struggling some more. I think he got slightly bored with the repetition, so keeping things exciting next time could be the key to success. Great job today Wally! – Cal

Bear Tuttle (9/29/2021 – 10/5/2021)

9/29 Get to Know

Bear is so cute and such a sweetheart! We started the session with getting him used to the environment and taking treats from me. He warmed up really quickly and we started going through his basics to see what he’s good with and what could use some practice. He caught on pretty quickly with his leave it and waits. Overall, Bear was so much fun to work with and I can’t wait to continue to work with him. Welcome to Teamworks! – Nautica

9/29 Get to know

Today I worked with bear on getting to know him and where his baseline is for training. Today we worked on so I’m clicker charging, focus, and a little bit of choosing to heal which is an introduction to Leash Manners. There is super sweet and very smart I enjoyed working with him a lot today and we can continue to strengthen his basic commands and adding more distractions. Overall it was nice getting to know him and I look forward to working with him some more. ~Jacquie

9/30 Leash Manners Outside

I took Bear today in one of our backyard play yards and we did a leash manners session outside. He has really really great focus and I was super impressed with his willingness and eagerness. He was able to handle some of the sounds of trucks in the parking lot and consistently checked in with me. I explain in the video how I’m looking more for a check in unless of asking for a look. I want that to be a behavior that is implicit in our walks and not just something that I have to ask for. He did a really great job! – Amy

9/30 focus work

Today bear worked on his focus in the classroom. He really impressed me today with how amazing his focuses and I was pleasantly surprised throughout his whole session with just how fantastic all of his behaviors are! He’s a really great boy and I can’t wait to get to work with him again!-Anna

10/1 Recalls Out Of Play

Today Bear and I worked with Lily and Pepper on Recalls. The ability to recall your dog during an exciting situation is very important! Bear and Pepper got to play with each other and then were recalled back to us . Bear took a bit to catch on to things, Pepper was a great leader for this. He could use some more work on responding to his name quicker but overall he began to get the hang of things by the end. Great job today for Bear 🙂 – Jenna

10/1 distraction Proofing

Today I worked with Bear on his focus and settle work while Anna and Shena sat at the other bench. Bear did a wonderful job today keeping really good focus, he was very responsive and stayed in his down for a long period of time. He did a wonderful job for a puppy his age on something that can be very challenging for even adult dogs. ~Jacquie

10/2 Recall Out Of Play & Social Skills

Today Bear and I worked with Pepper and Maria on our recalls out of play and general social skills development. Pepper and Bear were a great matchup and they taught some great lessons to each other about bite inhibition and playing nicely. I’d like to do some more ping-pong recalls and name recognition work with him in the future, but he did really well today. Good job Bear! – Cal

10/2 Socialization with Gucci

Bear definitely made a new friend today! He was able to give some good corrections when Gucci was getting too rowdy and break away to get a breather. -Maria

10/3 Dog Focus with Carson

Today Bear worked alongside a well behaved dog named Carson and practiced working on basic cues like sit and down with the added challenge of distractions. Carson was an excellent mentor, and working like this whenever you can-maybe at a group class or through board and train-will be very helpful to his training. – Hopler

10/3 Recalls

Today Bear and I worked on his recall skills and played some fun treat chase games! He did a really spectacular job today. He did get a little bored a few minutes into the session so I decided to switch it up to keep things fun. This is especially important with recall training because it is always best that a recall is as fun and strong as possible, otherwise it can easily be a safety issue in the real world. Puppies are especially prone to short attention spans, so this makes total sense that he got bored of recall training after a few minutes. Either way, we had a great time together. He’s got a great foundation of good behaviors and he’s such a sweetheart! – Cal

10/4 Stay/Focus/Socialization with Tasha

Bear was a bit cranky because he was tired, however he did a good job focusing when I asked! There’s still a lot to do with his focus and stay with another dog present, however it will come with time and practice since he’s a baby.  -Maria

10/4 Leash Manners / Lobby Focus

Bear and I worked on his focus and leash manners in a high distraction area and he did a great job! He offered check-ins throughout the entire session and was able to stay focused on me as people passed. He even offered some downs and was able to settle with all the distractions. He walked really nicely near the end and showed great focus. Great session overall! – Nautica

Zooey Maher (9/29/2021 – 10/9/2021)

9/29 Café

Zooey and I worked on settling in a café style setting today and she did a super good job! She did jump up a few times and demand bark, but it was easy to get her to settle back into it down and focus back on me. By the end, we worked up to a 20 second rate of reinforcement without her whining or jumping up. Zooey could use more practice, but she did a great job today! – Nautica

9/30 cafe training

today Zooey continued on her café training. I’m really impressed with her throughout her session she showed off some really really great behaviors and overall she did a lovely job today! -Anna

10/1 Outside leash and focus

today Zooey worked on her leash manners and focus outside. She’s making some really great improvements with her leash manners outside which is really great to see. We’re still working on her no jump but it is making some improvements as well! -Anna

10/2 Leash Manners – Kennel Room

Zooey was a bit bouncy in the beginning because she was so excited to get hotdogs but she settled down quickly as we got to work. We could use some work on taking treats more gently and doing stays with higher distractions. Overall, good work!!  -Maria

10/3 No-Jump and Polite Petting

Today Zooey and I sharpened her impulse control skills around jumping and being pet politely. Although she struggled a little at the beginning of the session, she did a fabulous job keeping her paws off of me while jumping and keeping all four feet on the ground! I definitely want to work on this again with her in the future and generalize it to other areas outside the classroom, but we had a great start and set a strong foundation today. Great job today Zooey! – Cal

10/4 No Jump / Gentle

Zooey did great learning how to take treats more gently, since she has a tendency to chomp them up. We also worked on not jumping up on me as well, which she picked up very quickly! -Maria

10/5 Distraction Proof outside with Mishka and Caitlyn

today Caitlyn and I took Zooey and Mishka outside for a distraction proofing session. I know that dog focus is one of the things that you like us to work on, and she did amazing! Once she understood that this was a working session, really nothing Mishka did could distract her. She offered really excellent behaviors, and was able to walk past them both without any press at all! Great job! Amy

10/6 Cafe training

Today I worked in the classroom with Zooey  on her focus and her settle work, while Loki and Nautica were on the other side of the room had another table. Zoooey handled this exercise very well I did have to keep her reinforcement at about every 10 to 15 seconds to keep her down at first. She did make improvements throughout the session and I was able to get about 15 solid seconds in between treating and keeping her focus and not being pushy for treats. Good progress overall today  ~Jacquie

10/7 Distraction proofing

Today i worked with Zooey outside today on her leash manner and focus while banks and Anna were on the other side of the parking lot. She did really well but does need some work on how she takes treats. She was very focused and walked nicely today, it was a good session overall. ~Jacquie

10/8 stay

today I worked with Zooey on her stay. As a session went on and I started to realize that she had a quite the impressive stay so I started to challenge her by adding some distractions. I was really impressed with her as I was able to walk around the room and step out of the room for a second and come back into the room while she continued on her stay. Overall lovely session today for Zooey! -Anna

Piper Cain (9/28-10/8/21)

9/28 Focus choosing to heel

Piper was on the nervous side today, so we worked on her focusing on me I was going to do settle work but she seem to be a little bit too nervous to do that so we worked on choosing to heel and she did wonderful. Overall it was a good session and I got her to settle down towards the end and give me consistent focus. ~Jacquie

9/30 Leash Manners Outside

I brought Piper today into one of our backyard play areas to work on a leash manners and a confident section. She is very eager to work, and I wanted her to be able to be around some of the distractions that might cause her anxiety without having to be too close or to see them. She did a really good job, so I was able to open up the door a little bit, although that proved to be a little bit too much. I left the door open and we didn’t walk through, and I worked on playing a pattern game with her in which I trust a treat and have her check in with me for another treat after marking with a click. She did a really good job and I’m very impressed with her. – Amy

Today I worked with piper in the classroom on her focus and leash manners well Alfie and Anna we’re on the other side of the barrier. 10/3 cafe

today I worked with piper on her settling behaviors by working on a café session. This was a really good session for piper as we worked on her being able to settle into a down outside with all of the distractions of being outside going on. This was challenging for her at times and when I first got her into a down I had to keep our rate of reinforcement pretty high but as the session went on she was able to settle a little bit more and I was able to move our rate of reinforcement to every 5 to 7 seconds. Very good job today piper! -Anna

10/4 Leash Manners / Lobby Focus

Piper and I worked on her focus and leash manners in a high distraction area and she did a great job! I did have to lure looks at first to get her to refocus on me. She did pull a bit at first, but she caught on quickly. By the end, she was walking nicely on a loose leash and completely ignoring people and dogs passing. Great progress today! – Nautica

10/5 Distraction Proof outside with Benny and Caitlyn

Today Caitlyn and I took Piper and Benny outside and we did a distraction proof and dog Focus session. Piper had really good body language with Caitlyn and consistently checked in with her throughout the session. She does like to sniff in order to relieve some stress, so we allowed her to do that and clicked every time that she reengaged. She did an excellent job overall and we were super impressed with her confidence! -Amy

By the end, she was walking politely through all the distractions and offering looks. Piper made a lot of progress today! – Nautica

10/7 Agility

I am SO proud of how far Piper has come! Today’s session was a fun intro to agility equipment and she did amazing! She was stellar over the jump, was willing to touch a wobble board and even ran through the tunnel! I love seeing dogs get excited and confident the more that they do that might have been scary at first. She was a little unfocused at first so we started with some focus work and she caught on pretty quickly. 9/30 Place

Today I introduced Echo to a raised cot in order to work on her place. She was a little bit hesitant about the cot, so instead of clicking and marking getting on, I mostly just dropped treats onto the bed which served as a reinforcement when she was willing to get up there. She worked really hard and was very brave hopping up and down off of the bed. I definitely recommend doing this in lots of different situations and with lots of different surfaces. Good job today! Amy

9/30 cooperative care

today echo worked on her cooperative care. This is a really important thing to start with puppies at a young age so they are comfortable with their paws being handled as well as their ears. she did a fairly good job today in her session and was only a little bit hesitant with her back paws so I only worked with her front paws during her session today. Good job echo! -Anna

Today Alfie and I worked on sharpening his “drop it” skill! He had some trouble reining it in at first and was thoroughly enjoying his play time, but he was able to bring it in and do some work for me. Good job Alfie! I’d like to work a little more on his recall while playing in the future – it’s already pretty good but I know we can get his response time even faster with a little more work. We had a good time together today! – Cal

Alfie and I worked on his place cue today and he did a really nice job! We worked on building duration and a bit of distance and he caught on pretty quickly. 9/29 Leash Manners Outside

Alfie and I worked on his leash manners outside in a high distraction area he did a great job! He was a little distracted by the smells and cars passing at first, but he caught on pretty quickly. The hardest thing for him was when a person walked out but I was still able to lure some looks. He walked politely throughout the entire session and showed nice focus. Overall great work! – Nautica

9/29 distraction proofing

Today Alfie and I worked in the classroom on his LeashManners and Focus while Nautica and coast we’re on the other side of the barrier. Alfie did a wonderful job today not worrying about Coast and Nautica offering really good eye Contact and kept a nice loose leash throughout the session. We did have to work on him not demanding for treats but overall it was a good session and he made good progress today. ~Jacquie

9/30 Leash Manners Outside

Really great job today, Alfie! We worked outside today in one of our black play yards and spent the session doing some leash manners. At the beginning I worked more on having him check in, and then he would go back with his nose to the ground. I explained in the video that I’m usually okay with this most of the time on a walk because I like the idea of a dog being able to use those senses, especially his nose. But towards the end of the video I made sure that I did work on more healing. In order to do that, I had to start out really small and have him in a sit and take even just half a step forward and making sure he was looking at me. I use a very high rate of reinforcement to do that and I don’t go very fast. Heeling like this can be tiring for a dog, so I would suggest making sure these sessions are short so that he understands that there are different types of walks. Sometimes you want him to walk next to you, and sometimes it’s okay for him to sniff ahead and explore. You can usually use a different cue for either of those, and so I would recommend making sure that he understands a difference between a heel at the side for the moment, and a release you can walk where you’d like but I’d still like the leash to be loose. Really good job today! – Amy

9/30 polite greetings

today Alfie worked on his polite greetings and no jump outside with the help of one of our other trainers Jackie. Overall he did a really nice job and I was struggling to figure out ways to make him want to jump up so we could work on it. After trying multiple different things we finally figured out that when he gets really excited he has a tendency to jump up once or twice but is easy to redirect which is good to see.-Anna

10/1 distraction proofing with piper

today Alfie worked on his focus with Piper in the room. I was really impressed with him throughout the session and he showed off some really great focus, and only jumped up a couple of times throughout his session. Near the end of the session we decided to work on a duration down and he really surprised me there and was able to hold a down for about two minutes! Great job Alfie! -Anna

10/1 distraction proofing

Today I worked with Alfie outside on his focus and leash manners while Anna and Zooey we’re the other end of the parking lot. Alfie did a really good job today and did not mind the Joey and Anna were working at the other end of the parking lot, he was a bit pushy for treats  so we addressed that during the session. Alfie then made good improvements through out the session and was very focused really good ending. ~Jacquie

10/2 Leash Manners – kennel room

Alfie did very well with this today! He hardly pulled despite all of the interesting dogs and people. We also worked on some stays because he was doing so well and he made some good progress! -Maria

10/2 Duration Down-Stay

Today Alfie and I worked on his down-stay skills, specifically with duration. He did a superb job today and was able to hold a several-minute long down stay under some slight distractions. In the future, I’d like to increase the distraction level or duration time independently, but he has an absolutely stellar grasp on what I was asking of him. Really good job today Alfie, can’t wait to work with you again in the future! – Cal

10/3 Rally + Leash Manners Outdoors

This was a good level of challenge for Alfie. He was able to accomplish each of the tasks but needed just a little redirection from distractions to do it. Great work! – Hopler

10/3 Down-stay (Cafe style)

Today Alfie and I worked on his down-stay skills while I worked on paperwork. This simulated an environment where you are otherwise busy and he needs to keep focused on the task at hand – laying down and being calm and patient. He did a phenomenal job, popping up a few times at distractions but always willing to quickly hop back into work for me when asked. He did a great job and I’d love to work more with him in the future! – Cal
